Overview

  • On July 31, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced voluntary recalls of about 192,000 KidKraft Farm to Table play kitchens and 302,000 Cosco folding step stools.
  • The play kitchen recall follows a February 2023 Oregon incident in which a 23-month-old was asphyxiated when his shirt caught on an accessory hook.
  • Cosco’s recall stems from 34 reports of detached safety bars on its learning towers, including two incidents that caused head injuries.
  • Backyard Kids is instructing consumers to remove the original hooks immediately and is distributing free replacement hooks for all affected kitchens.
  • Dorel Industries is sending repair kits for the step-stool safety bars and advising users to stop using recalled units until they have been fixed.
