Overview

  • Backyard Kids, LLC has voluntarily recalled about 192,000 KidKraft Farm to Table Model 53411 play kitchens and is providing free replacement hooks to consumers nationwide.
  • The action follows a February 2023 incident in Oregon where a 23-month-old child died after his shirt caught on a hook at the back of the play kitchen, with no additional fatalities reported.
  • Cosco, under parent Dorel Industries, recalled roughly 302,000 two-step folding step stools after 34 reports of safety bar detachment, including two cases that resulted in head injuries, and is offering free repair kits.
  • The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has urged owners to stop using the recalled units immediately and to install provided repair kits for step stools or swap in replacement hooks for play kitchens at no cost.
  • KidKraft’s May 2024 bankruptcy led Backyard Kids to assume recall responsibilities for the play kitchens, highlighting how corporate transitions can affect manufacturer liability in product safety.
