Overview

  • Backyard Kids recalled about 192,000 KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens after a February 2023 incident in Oregon where a toddler died when his shirt caught on an accessory hook.
  • Cosco and parent Dorel Industries recalled roughly 302,000 folding kitchen steppers following 34 reports of safety bars detaching or breaking, including two head injuries.
  • The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced both recalls on July 31 and is coordinating the distribution of free replacement hooks and repair kits nationwide.
  • After KidKraft’s May 2024 bankruptcy, Backyard Kids assumed responsibility for the play kitchens and pledged to replace hooks on every affected unit, including those sold in Canada.
  • Owners are urged to stop using the recalled products immediately, remove the original hooks or safety bars, and contact Backyard Kids or Dorel Industries to receive free safety parts.
