Nearly 500,000 Charmast Power Banks Recalled Over Fire and Burn Risks

The lithium-ion battery-powered chargers, sold exclusively on Amazon, have reportedly overheated and caused injuries, prompting a safety recall.

  • Charmast has recalled 488,000 power banks sold on Amazon between December 2018 and September 2024 due to fire and burn hazards.
  • The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported 44 incidents of the power banks overheating, igniting, or melting, with four cases resulting in burns or blisters.
  • The recalled chargers, identified as Model W1056, were available in six colors and priced between $14 and $25.
  • Consumers are advised to stop using the products immediately, dispose of them at local recycling centers for damaged lithium batteries, and contact Charmast for a refund.
  • Lithium-ion battery defects have been linked to numerous safety incidents, underscoring the importance of proper handling and manufacturing standards.
