Nearly 300 Migrants Camp Outside Paris’s 11th Arrondissement Town Hall

With Utopia56 at capacity, protesters urge the state to deliver permanent housing

Overview

  • Migrants arrived Wednesday evening and include around 100 children and dozens of unaccompanied minors who have spent the night on the parvis.
  • Utopia56 volunteers stayed overnight alongside the group, joined by Médecins du Monde to distribute blankets, emergency supplies, food and water.
  • Nathan Lequeux, Paris coordinator for Utopia56, said the association had provided shelter for months but could no longer expand its resources.
  • Earlier Thursday, police cleared more than 100 tents occupied along the Saint-Denis canal.
  • Demonstrators have banged bins to draw attention and accused state and city officials of enforcing a racist housing policy.
