Nearly 1,000 Drivers Cited for Alcohol Violations in Argentina’s January Crackdown

Authorities say daily checkpoints at 39 strategic sites will continue through the summer to curb severe crashes.

  • Frequent offenses included 838 cases without RTO/VTV, 586 without mandatory documents, 586 for no seatbelt use, 372 for irregular plates, and 30 for hard-shoulder misuse.
  • CNRT checked 46,731 cargo and passenger vehicles, filed 1,019 citations, and retained 116 units, including 87 trucks and 29 buses.
  • The Transport Secretariat set the alcohol-positive penalty at ARS 1,807,000 with license seizure and prohibition to continue the trip.
