The NDP has been without a permanent leader since Jagmeet Singh resigned in April.

Overview

  • The party published detailed leadership-race regulations on July 25, 2025, specifying candidate qualification requirements.
  • A $100,000 entry fee aims to assess each contender’s organizational and fundraising strength.
  • Aspirants must secure at least 50 signatures from supporters in each of five regions—North, Atlantic provinces, Quebec, Ontario, and Prairies and B.C.
  • At least 10 per cent of a candidate’s signatures must come from party members aged 25 or under to boost youth representation.
  • Candidate registration opens in September 2025 and the contest concludes with a final ranked-ballot vote at the Winnipeg convention in March 2026.
