NDMA Issues Six-Day Alert for Heavy Rain and Flash-Flood Risk

Warning of rapid rises in mountain streams, NDMA orders emergency teams to stand by for possible urban and flash flooding.

Overview

  • The National Disaster Management Authority issued the alert Friday and said a westerly weather system will intensify on Sept. 25–26 with heavy rain expected through Sept. 30.
  • Officials named high‑risk mountainous districts in Gilgit‑Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where sudden flash floods and rapid rises in seasonal streams are most likely.
  • The NEOC warned that thunderstorms, heavy downpours and possible hail could cause urban flooding in Islamabad‑Rawalpindi and many districts across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
  • NDMA directed local departments to pre‑position emergency response teams and resources, continuously monitor rivers, streams and nullahs, and issue public warnings as needed.
  • People living in low‑lying or mountain‑stream areas are urged to avoid crossing torrents and flooded roads because sudden floods can cut roads, damage homes and disrupt relief access through the forecast period.
