NDA Nears Bihar Seat-Sharing Deal as BJP Unveils Poll Panels, Excludes R K Singh

Overview

  • Seat-sharing within the NDA has been discussed with a reported formula of JD(U) contesting 102 seats and the BJP 101, with 22 for LJP(RV) and a small tranche for other allies, according to sources familiar with the talks.
  • The BJP named a 45-member campaign committee and a 13-member manifesto committee for Bihar, with former Union minister R K Singh absent from both lists.
  • The party has also deployed 45 “special” leaders to manage one Lok Sabha seat each across the state as part of an intensified ground operation under Amit Shah, who has set a 160-plus target for the NDA.
  • The Election Commission is likely to visit Patna in the first week of October to review preparedness, with poll dates expected to follow and the Model Code of Conduct to take effect soon after.
  • A September JVC survey projects the NDA at 131–150 seats against 81–103 for the Mahagathbandhan, while sources say the opposition bloc is narrowing its own seat-sharing with RJD expected near 130 seats and Congress near 58 to accommodate allies.
