NDA Enforces Five-Hour Bihar Bandh Over Darbhanga Abuse Video

The ruling alliance is turning the Darbhanga video into a women-led show of strength before Bihar's polls.

Overview

  • Protests, road blockades and partial shutdowns were reported this morning across districts including Patna, Gaya, Danapur and Darbhanga, with police deployed at key junctions.
  • Essential services were exempt and train operations continued, while many shops closed and some schools in Patna shut as a precaution during the 7 a.m.–noon bandh.
  • BJP, JD(U) and allied women’s wings led demonstrations after Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the remarks as an insult to all mothers on September 2.
  • Darbhanga police earlier arrested Mohammad Rizvi, identified as the man in the viral video, as parties traded blame and demanded apologies from Congress and the RJD.
  • The Congress-led INDIA bloc said the accused is not a party member, Tejashwi Yadav rejected abusive language but accused the NDA of politicising the episode, and earlier clashes between workers led to FIRs and counter-FIRs.
