Overview

  • The commission deemed the initial action taken report “grossly inadequate” and set a five-day deadline for a comprehensive revision.
  • It noted the absence of certified FIR copies, medical examination reports and other documents that were specifically requested.
  • Invoking Section 10(4) of the NCW Act, the commission directed police to add multiple cognizable sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to the FIR.
  • Authorities were instructed to seize Anubrata Mondal’s digital devices, confirm whether his interrogation was video-recorded and review the need for custodial questioning.
  • Meanwhile, the CBI has launched a fresh probe into possible witness intimidation in the 2022 cattle smuggling case for which Mondal was arrested and later released on bail.
