NCRB Report Finds Recorded Crime Up 7.2% in 2023 as Cybercrime Surges; Delhi Tops Metro Totals

Fraud-heavy online offences and easier FIR filing are shaping the numbers, even as crimes against children and Scheduled Tribes climb sharply.

  • Police registered 6,241,569 cognizable cases in 2023, pushing the national crime rate to 448.3 per lakh population from 422.2 a year earlier.
