Overview

• Maharashtra reported 388 trafficking cases in 2023, up from 295 in 2022, followed by Telangana with 336 and Odisha with 162.
• Across India, 6,024 arrests resulted in 4,933 charge sheets but only 152 convictions, even with 815 Anti-Human Trafficking Units and full district coverage in 20 states and UTs.
• Telangana arrested 1,058 suspects and charge-sheeted 873 yet secured nine convictions for a 3.7% rate, with 607 victims both trafficked and rescued and 597 cases linked to prostitution.
• Andhra Pradesh logged 123 cases, down from 163 a year earlier, with eight convictions for a 2.3% rate despite 623 arrests and 435 charge sheets.
• In Maharashtra, police rescued 955 victims and filed charge sheets in all cases, with 852 women trafficked for prostitution or sexual exploitation.
