  • Solicitor General Tushar Mehta urged permission for NEERI-approved green fireworks to be burst on Diwali between 8 pm and 10 pm across Delhi-NCR.
  • He proposed narrow windows for other occasions: 11:55 pm to 12:30 am on Christmas and New Year’s Eve, 4 am to 5 am and 9 pm to 10 pm on Gurpurab, and limited use for marriages and similar events.
  • Only NEERI-approved formulations would be manufactured and sold, with NEERI and PESO carrying out inspections and manufacturers detailing quantities and product specifics.
  • The proposal restricts sales to licensed traders and bars e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart from accepting or delivering cracker orders.
