NCP Retracts Attack on IPS Officer as FIR Names Local Leaders in Solapur Case

Activists and opposition leaders press for a case against Ajit Pawar, who says his call sought to calm tensions.

Overview

  • Solapur Rural Police registered an FIR on September 4 against a local NCP functionary, associates and about 15–20 others for allegedly obstructing officials during an August 31 operation against illegal soil excavation in Kurduvadi.
  • A widely shared video captured Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar sternly telling SDPO Anjana Krishna to halt the action, after which he publicly said he was trying to de‑escalate and affirmed respect for the rule of law.
  • NCP spokesperson Amol Mitkari withdrew a tweet targeting Krishna, issued an unconditional apology and said his comments about her credentials and UPSC records were his personal view, not the party’s stand.
  • Senior NCP leaders defended Pawar, calling the incident a misunderstanding and citing a local gram panchayat resolution and a language barrier while arguing his intervention aimed to maintain order.
  • Social activist Anjali Damania sent a legal notice demanding Pawar’s resignation pending an inquiry and said she would seek an FIR against him, as the Shiv Sena (UBT) also urged police to register a case.
