NCP Cancels £100 Fine Over 2-Inch Bay-Line Overhang, Apologizes After Appeal

The reversal followed an appeal prompted by questions over proportionality.

Overview

  • Lisa Henderson, 56, parked at NCP's St Mark's car park in Newark on August 9, paid £1.95 for an hour, and left after about 30 minutes.
  • A letter dated August 20 demanded £100 and included photos showing her Mini’s front tyre slightly crossing a white bay line.
  • NCP initially maintained the notice was correctly issued for a breach of its Terms and Conditions.
  • Following Henderson’s appeal, NCP reviewed the image, cancelled the charge, and issued an apology, according to spokesperson Michelle McCarthy.
  • Henderson said she felt relieved but annoyed, arguing the overhang was only one to two inches and did not obstruct another space.
