Overview
- Charan Pratap Singh and aide Karsan Ahir were arrested on May 29 after CBI officials caught them allegedly accepting a Rs3 lakh bribe to influence a hotel ownership dispute.
- On June 13, a special CBI court granted Singh bail on a Rs1 lakh personal bond and required a surety along with twice-weekly CBI office appearances until the chargesheet is filed.
- The court barred Singh from leaving Mumbai and Thane districts without prior permission and prohibited him from tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses.
- The CBI registered its case on May 14 based on a hotel owner’s complaint over a property dispute with his brothers that has been pending at NCLT Mumbai since November 2020.
- Investigators have expanded the probe to examine potential wider corruption among officials at the NCLT Mumbai bench following the initial bribery trap.
