'NCIS: Origins' Prequel Series Greenlit by CBS
Mark Harmon Returns to NCIS Universe as Narrator of New Series
- Mark Harmon will return to the NCIS universe as the narrator of a new prequel series titled 'NCIS: Origins', set to air during the 2024-2025 season. The series will follow a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the character Harmon played for nearly two decades on NCIS.
- The prequel series will be set in 1991 and will depict Gibbs as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office. The series will introduce new characters and reintroduce fan-favorite characters from the original series.
- Mark Harmon and his son, Sean Harmon, who has previously portrayed a young Gibbs on NCIS, will serve as executive producers on the prequel series. The series was pitched to CBS by the Harmons.
- David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal, both veterans of the NCIS franchise, will serve as co-showrunners on 'NCIS: Origins'. They will also co-write the premiere episode.
- Casting for the lead role in the prequel series will begin shortly. Sean Harmon will not reprise his role as young Gibbs, focusing instead on his executive producing duties.
