NCERT Says 90 Lakh Class 9 Books Distributed as It Expands Distribution Network

The council is boosting logistics to reduce short-term textbook gaps during the staged NEP 2020 curriculum rollout.

Overview

  • NCERT said on Monday that more than 90 lakh copies of revised Class 9 textbooks across nine subjects have been printed and distributed nationwide.
  • The Social Science textbook for Class 9 is nearly print-ready and is expected to be released soon to complete the set of revised books.
  • To address localised shortages NCERT has widened supply channels to include authorised vendors, regional sales counters, its online portal, major e-commerce platforms, and new Strategic Distribution Centres run with the Central Warehousing Corporation.
  • Parents and schools reported difficulty obtaining some revised editions at the start of the academic session and NCERT says it is closely monitoring stocks and will continue to augment supplies until availability normalises.
  • A separate content dispute has arisen over a modified 'Dancing Girl' illustration in the Class 9 art book and NCERT’s director has said the image will be replaced in future editions as the council continues its textbook rollout.
