NCERT Releases Swadeshi Classroom Modules Linking 1905 Movement to Self‑Reliance

The classroom supplements place freedom‑era Swadeshi in the context of current economic policy with a focus on technology.

Overview

  • Two short supplements for classes 6–8 and 9–12 have been published as additional materials separate from textbooks.
  • Each module opens with excerpts from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 79th Independence Day address and connects Swadeshi to Make in India, Startup India, Digital India, Vocal for Local and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
  • Content spotlights strategic technologies, introducing the India Semiconductor Mission and India’s AI efforts such as the IndiaAI Mission, Bharat Gen and AI for All, framing self‑reliance as a security and competitiveness imperative.
  • Lessons highlight local enterprise through the One District One Product programme—over 1,200 items from 750+ districts promoted via GeM and ONDC and through “ODOP Walls” in cities like Singapore, Milan, New York and Tokyo—alongside grassroots case studies from Kerala and Jodhpur.
  • The rollout aligns with a broader push that includes an Education Ministry Buildathon and guidance to use Zoho’s office suite, while former MP Tarlochan Singh has asked NCERT to credit Baba Ram Singh with an earlier Swadeshi call.
