Overview

  • NCERT's revamped Class 7 textbooks, aligned with NEP 2020, eliminate all references to the Mughals and Delhi Sultanate, marking a significant shift in historical focus.
  • The new Social Science book integrates history, geography, and civics, featuring chapters on ancient Indian dynasties like the Mauryas, Cholas, and Satavahanas.
  • A dedicated chapter, 'How the Land Becomes Sacred,' explores sacred geography and pilgrimage sites across multiple religions, including Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and Sikhism.
  • The textbooks incorporate modern civic elements, such as government initiatives like 'Make in India' and a chapter on constitutional rights, including the 2004 Supreme Court ruling on flag-flying freedoms.
  • Part II of the textbooks is expected in the coming months, but NCERT has not clarified whether the removed Mughal and Sultanate content will be reinstated.
