Overview

  • NCERT's revised Class 7 Social Science textbook, 'Exploring Society: India and Beyond (Part 1),' excludes content on the Mughals and Delhi Sultanate, ending historical coverage with the Gupta period.
  • New chapters focus on ancient Indian dynasties such as the Mauryas, Shungas, and Satavahanas, alongside cultural themes like sacred geography and pilgrimage networks.
  • A chapter titled 'How the Land Becomes Sacred' explores religious pilgrimage sites across traditions, including the Char Dham Yatra and 12 Jyotirlingas, with an emphasis on cultural reverence.
  • The English textbook 'Poorvi' now features nine out of 15 pieces by Indian authors, a significant increase from four in the previous edition, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020.
  • Part 1 of the Social Science textbook is already in circulation, while Part 2 is expected later this year, with no confirmation on whether omitted medieval content will be restored.
