NCCIA Summons Mohammad Rizwan for Forensic Phone Exam

Investigators are seeking digital evidence that could show whether seized messages link the player to dressing‑room leaks or to alleged betting offences under PECA.

Overview

  • The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has ordered Rizwan to appear on Friday, Oct. 2, for an in-person forensic analysis of the mobile phone taken from him during the Lord's Test.
  • Rizwan’s phone was seized at Lord's on Aug. 31 and has remained in NCCIA custody while he says he provided the device password and watched an unlocked review without receiving a seizure receipt or custody record.
  • In a letter to investigators Rizwan has asked for written details of the allegations, demanded the immediate return of his phone, and confirmed he will attend the Oct. 2 session with a lawyer.
  • The inquiry is reported to be focused on alleged dressing-room leaks and has earlier referenced online betting and possible offences under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, but no criminal charges have been made public.
  • The outcome of the forensic exam will shape any Pakistan Cricket Board discipline and has raised wider questions about how law enforcement and cricket authorities share evidence, notify governing bodies and document custody of player devices.
