Overview
- The Narcotics Control Bureau’s Guwahati unit intercepted two trucks and recovered about 53.937 kg of methamphetamine on Tuesday, and arrested two men from Bishnupur in Manipur.
- Officers found the drugs hidden inside specially fabricated concealed cavities built into the trucks’ fuel tanks, a smuggling technique meant to evade routine checks.
- The NCB values the seized consignment at roughly Rs 43 crore and says preliminary probes point to Myanmar as the source while investigators work to map the full supply chain.
- Separately, Assam Rifles carried out multiple operations in Mizoram and Tripura that recovered additional methamphetamine, heroin, poppy seeds and large batches of foreign cigarettes and handed those seizures to civil agencies for prosecution.
- Long, unfenced stretches of the India–Myanmar border make the Northeast a known transhipment route, and agencies say coordinated intelligence-led action and follow-up probes will aim to trace financiers, transporters and international suppliers.
