NCB Arrests Myanmar Kingpin in Manipur Raid

The arrest begins a focused campaign of asset tracing to identify members and proceeds of a transnational methamphetamine and heroin network.

Overview

  • A joint Narcotics Control Bureau and Manipur Police raid at Hotel Venus in Churachandpur resulted in the arrest of Nengzatuan, also known as Tuanpi, on Wednesday.
  • The NCB says Tuanpi is the principal accused in three cases tied to roughly 28.22 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 1.278 kg of heroin and is wanted in multiple NDPS cases.
  • Investigators say months of intelligence work, technical surveillance, digital evidence and coordinated raids across Manipur and Assam led to the capture by tracing local receivers and coordinators.
  • The NCB describes the group as a multi-tier IndiaMyanmar syndicate that moved drugs from Haichin in Myanmar’s Chin State through Manipur, Mizoram, Assam and Tripura for markets in India and Bangladesh.
  • Authorities link the network to seizures and proceeds valued at over ₹53 crore and say ongoing financial probes aim to freeze assets, identify collaborators and support prosecutions.
