NCB Arrests Myanmar-Based Drug Kingpin in Manipur Raid

Months of technical surveillance produced the arrest, prompting investigators to pursue assets, probe finances, question suspects.

Overview

  • A joint NCB and Manipur Police raid in Churachandpur on Wednesday led to the arrest of Nengzatuan, known as Tuanpi, who was taken from Hotel Venus and is now in custody.
  • The NCB says Tuanpi is a resident of Haichin in Myanmar’s Chin State and identifies him as a principal international supplier in a transnational syndicate.
  • He is the principal accused in three NCB cases tied to about 28.22 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 1.278 kg of heroin, and he is linked to seven other NDPS cases.
  • Months of intelligence work, technical surveillance and the interrogation of arrested Indian operatives—including Abdullah Ahmed, Lalthlamuong Pulamte, Nengultinkhum Hrangngul and Paominlen Munlo—helped investigators trace the supplier to Myanmar.
  • Authorities say the network is tied to drug seizures and proceeds worth over ₹53 crore and warn that dismantling leadership may push traffickers to use denser forest and river routes, complicating future enforcement.
