NCAA Permanently Bans 3 Players for Betting on Their Own Games as Probe Widens

Integrity alerts on player-prop bets triggered the case as enforcement pursues separate allegations at six other programs.

Overview

  • Fresno State’s Mykell Robinson and Jalen Weaver and San Jose State’s Steven Vasquez were ruled permanently ineligible after an NCAA investigation into 2024–25 prop and daily-fantasy wagering.
  • The NCAA found two players manipulated performance, including Robinson intentionally underperforming on Jan. 7 against Colorado State, where $2,200 in wagers returned $15,950.
  • An integrity monitor and a Nevada sportsbook flagged suspicious prop bets on Robinson, leading investigators to evidence of shared betting-line information, 13 DFS prop bets by Robinson, and a $50 parlay by Weaver that won $260.
  • Robinson and Vasquez did not cooperate with investigators while Weaver admitted violations; all three were released from their teams, are no longer enrolled, and Fresno State and San Jose State were not penalized.
  • In a separate action, enforcement staff alleged betting-rule violations by 13 former players from Eastern Michigan, Temple, Arizona State, New Orleans, North Carolina A&T and Mississippi Valley, citing conduct that includes betting on or against their teams, sharing information, manipulating outcomes, or refusing to cooperate, with names withheld pending the process.
