NCAA Panel Backs Jan. 2–16 Single Transfer Portal Window, Adds Postseason Grace Period

The plan still requires Division I Administrative Committee approval next week.

Overview

  • An NCAA FBS Oversight Committee vote supports a 15-day portal entry period from Jan. 2–16 for undergraduate and graduate players.
  • Players whose seasons extend past the window will get a consecutive five-day period to enter the portal beginning the day after their final postseason game.
  • The move replaces the December window and eliminates the spring period, making January the lone standard time for portal entry.
  • Student-athletes need only file for entry during the window, and they may choose their transfer destination after it closes.
  • The proposal is slated for Division I Administrative Committee review on Oct. 7–8, and the 30-day coach-dismissal trigger remains in effect as its handling is still being evaluated.
