NC Rep. Cecil Brockman Resigns After Arrest as Judge Cuts Bond to $250,000

Guilford County Democrats will choose a successor to serve through January 2027 under the state appointment process.

Overview

  • At a Monday hearing, the court reduced Brockman’s bond from $1.05 million to $250,000 after he had been jailed since his first appearance in early October.
  • Brockman was arrested Oct. 8 and is charged with two counts of statutory sex offense with a child and two counts of indecent liberties involving a 15-year-old.
  • Prosecutors told the court they have digital evidence, including 14 videos, and alleged he tracked the teen via an app, called 911, and tried to reach the juvenile at a hospital.
  • He resigned effective Oct. 31 following bipartisan pressure and after House leaders named a 12-member panel to investigate and he was removed from all committee assignments.
  • Local Democratic officials will hold a Nov. 15 forum before recommending a replacement for the District 60 seat, with the governor to make the appointment for the remainder of the term.
