NBL Player Jackson Makoi Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

The Cairns Taipans guard was detained in Sydney on an outstanding warrant and will face court after being denied bail.

Jackson Makoi, a 24-year-old guard for the Cairns Taipans, was arrested at a Sydney hotel on Saturday evening by NSW Police on domestic violence charges.
The charges include common assault and intentionally choking a person with recklessness, related to an alleged incident in Oxley Park, Sydney, in November 2023.
Makoi was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
The National Basketball League (NBL) and Basketball Australia's Integrity Unit are aware of the situation but have declined to comment further at this stage.
Makoi, who represented South Sudan in the 2024 Paris Olympics, has faced previous legal troubles, including a suspension for driving under the influence in 2024.
