NBL Player Jackson Makoi Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges
The Cairns Taipans guard was detained in Sydney on an outstanding warrant and will face court after being denied bail.
- Jackson Makoi, a 24-year-old guard for the Cairns Taipans, was arrested at a Sydney hotel on Saturday evening by NSW Police on domestic violence charges.
- The charges include common assault and intentionally choking a person with recklessness, related to an alleged incident in Oxley Park, Sydney, in November 2023.
- Makoi was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
- The National Basketball League (NBL) and Basketball Australia's Integrity Unit are aware of the situation but have declined to comment further at this stage.
- Makoi, who represented South Sudan in the 2024 Paris Olympics, has faced previous legal troubles, including a suspension for driving under the influence in 2024.
