NBC Poll Finds Gen Z Gender Gap Stretching From Politics to Family and Work

The survey, fielded Aug. 13–Sept. 1 with nearly 3,000 Gen Z respondents, documents a persistent split that reaches far beyond electoral choices.

Overview

  • Among adults ages 18–29, 64% disapprove of President Trump’s job performance, with young men nearly evenly divided (53% disapprove, 47% approve) and young women far more negative (74% disapprove, 26% approve).
  • Issue ratings show the widest gap on immigration, where 45% of Gen Z men approve of Trump’s handling versus 21% of Gen Z women, with smaller but notable gaps on inflation and trade.
  • Definitions of success diverge sharply by vote choice: Gen Z men who voted for Trump rank having children as most important, while Gen Z women who voted for Harris place children near the bottom.
  • Despite value differences, both Gen Z men and women commonly prioritize a fulfilling job, having money for desired activities, and achieving financial independence.
  • Young women report far higher anxiety about the future, with about one-third feeling anxious almost all the time compared with under two in 10 young men, and the sexes differ on whether gender confers workplace advantage.
