NBC News Announces Dozens of Layoffs Amid Industry Turbulence

Affected employees to receive severance and opportunity to apply for new roles, as media industry grapples with widespread job cuts.

NBC News is laying off dozens of employees due to weak advertising revenue and turbulence in the news media industry.
Those laid off will receive 60 days notice, severance, and are eligible to apply for up to 150 roles the organization intends to fill.
This follows a similar round of layoffs a year ago, and comes as other news outlets, including CNBC, Vox Media, Condé Nast, and The Messenger, have made similar cuts.
The layoffs are part of a wider trend in the media industry, with 2,681 journalism job cuts in 2023, up 48% from 2022 and 77% from 2021.
NBC News and MSNBC had a workforce of about 3,500 employees as of 2023.
