Overview

• Jackson Township police responded around 11 a.m. on Sept. 6 to the Paragon Apartment Complex and found 28-year-old Toraya Reid unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds near the complex exit.
• Officers observed a man later identified as 29-year-old Shaquille Green running on North New Prospect Road and took him into custody without incident.
• Prosecutors charged Green with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, and he is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
• A joint probe by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police, and the county crime-scene unit identified Green, who had been in a dating relationship with Reid, as the person responsible.
• Naz Reid shared childhood photos honoring his sister, their sibling Jakahya requested privacy and stressed that Toraya be remembered by name, and former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns posted that he was “heartbroken.”
