Navy’s 250th Homecoming Launches in Philadelphia With Parade of Ships on the Delaware

Public ship tours begin Friday across multiple waterfront piers.

Overview

  • The opening procession featured Navy and Coast Guard vessels on the Delaware River, with ships mooring at Penn’s Landing, the Navy Yard, Gloucester Marine Terminal and near the Battleship New Jersey.
  • Visitor tours are scheduled Oct. 10–14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the designated piers on both sides of the river.
  • The Navy & Marine Corps 250 Parade steps off Monday at 11 a.m. from JFK Boulevard and 20th Street to 520 Chestnut St., with extensive Center City street closures and 18 SEPTA bus routes detoured.
  • City officials activated crowd-safety measures including enhanced law enforcement and EMS coverage, and they reminded attendees that unauthorized drones are prohibited.
  • Organizers expect more than 1,800 service members and roughly 300,000 visitors; events on the schedule include a Navy Band concert at the Art Museum, a veterans picnic on Independence Mall and a Blue Angels flyover on Monday, plus a new exhibit at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
