Overview
- The demonstration at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii marked the first live maritime evaluation of the SPY-6(V)4 and produced the configuration’s initial data set.
- Multiple open-water trials showed the radar tracking air and surface targets in varied conditions, validating years of modeling and simulation.
- The (V)4 variant is designed for Arleigh Burke Flight IIA destroyers with capability against ballistic, hypersonic and cruise missiles as well as anti-surface and anti-air threats.
- Raytheon and the Navy say the results will inform further testing and system enhancements using common SPY-6 hardware and software across variants.
- Under DDG MOD 2.0, USS Pinckney is scheduled as the first retrofit starting in 2026 with return in 2028, as SPY-6 rolls out under a 2022 production and sustainment contract and broader fleet fielding projected over the next decade.
