Overview
- Capt. Jon O’Connor assumed command on Dec. 5 at Naval Station Norfolk as the pilot program formally began.
- The unit is aligned to Carrier Strike Group 2, led by the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, to deliver integrated information warfare effects.
- The construct mirrors air wings and destroyer squadrons by consolidating authorities and accountability under a single commander.
- Personnel are drawn from Navy cyber defense, information operations, training, oceanography and fleet intelligence elements to provide unified support.
- The pilot, unanimously approved by the Fleet Commanders’ Readiness Council in June, will inform doctrine, with a West Coast squadron planned for 2026.
