Navier and Stripe Launch Pilot Hydrofoil Water Taxi Service in Bay Area

The high-speed electric boats aim to reduce commute times and carbon footprints, with plans for future expansion.

  • Navier, a San Francisco-based tech startup, has partnered with financial platform company Stripe to launch a pilot water taxi service using high-speed electric hydrofoil boats for Stripe employees commuting from Marin County to South San Francisco.
  • The hydrofoil boat, named the N30, can reduce commute time from about 90 minutes to 45 minutes, and is equipped with amenities such as tables and Wi-Fi.
  • The pilot program aims to explore the feasibility of such a service in coastal and river communities, with plans to increase the fleet by five-to-seven vessels by next year.
  • Navier's CEO, Sampriti Bhattacharyya, has expressed interest in expanding the hydrofoil water transit concept to other cities, following a successful roadshow to U.S. coastal cities last year.
  • Navier's hydrofoil boats are more efficient and cost-effective than traditional vessels, with an operational cost of just 38 cents per mile, and a range between 75 and 100 nautical miles.
