Navi Mumbai Police Take Custody of Transnational Drug Syndicate Kingpin Naveen Chichkar

Authorities will use his detention to map the syndicate’s global trafficking routes alongside its financial ties.

Overview

  • On June 11, the Navi Mumbai police secured 35-year-old Naveen Chichkar from the Narcotics Control Bureau in a hydroponic marijuana case registered on April 14.
  • Chichkar is accused of running a syndicate that trafficked over ₹1,128 crore worth of drugs, importing cocaine from the US and distributing hybrid hydroponic weed.
  • Investigators have seized about 2.5–3 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana, roughly 1 kilogram of conventional cannabis and over 11 kilograms of cocaine during follow-up raids.
  • The probe has uncovered links to clearing house agents and hawala operators and led to the arrest of at least 10 suspects, including two police officers.
  • Chichkar had fled to Thailand in 2021 after an LSD trafficking case and was traced to Malaysia, where a Red Notice resulted in his deportation on May 28.
