Navi Mumbai Police Arrest Fake Cop in Pune, Recover 1.2 Kg of Gold

Police say the Pune resident used fake IDs to pose as an officer, a tactic now tied to at least 15 Navi Mumbai frauds.

  • Investigators recovered 1,186 grams of jewellery worth about ₹1.25 crore along with fake police, Aadhaar and PAN IDs and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crimes.
  • The crime branch trawled 20–25 days of CCTV across routes between Kharghar, Lonavala and Pimpri-Chinchwad to identify a TVS Apache and trace the suspect to Pune.
  • Officers detained the accused’s wife in Pune on October 12 as she allegedly tried to sell stolen ornaments, leading them to a cache of jewellery.
  • Police have linked the suspect to at least 15 impersonation-related frauds in Navi Mumbai and describe him as a habitual offender with over 100 criminal cases, including prior MCOCA matters.
  • Arrested on October 28 and brought to Navi Mumbai, the accused is in police custody through November 6 as the probe widens.
