Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 Tops 1.15 Crore Riders in Two Years as CIDCO Sets Airport Link

Fare cuts with tighter headways are driving demand, prompting CIDCO to pursue an airport link.

Overview

  • CIDCO reported a cumulative 1,15,28,297 passengers on Line 1 since commercial launch on November 17, 2023.
  • The elevated corridor runs roughly 11–12 km between Belapur and Pendhar and is operated by CIDCO.
  • Service frequency was revised to every 10 minutes in peak hours and every 15 minutes off-peak, with fares now Rs 10 to Rs 30.
  • Line 1 is being planned for extension to the Navi Mumbai International Airport, which is scheduled to start commercial flights on December 25, 2025.
  • CIDCO also proposed a roughly 16 km Metro Line 2 from Pendhar and Taloja MIDC to NMIA via Kalamboli and Kamothe to strengthen connectivity across residential and industrial hubs.
