Navi Mumbai International Airport Opens To Passenger Flights With First IndiGo Arrival

The AdaniCIDCO greenfield hub launches as Mumbai’s second gateway on a limited 8 am–8 pm schedule ahead of a planned 24x7 ramp-up in February.

Overview

  • IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru landed at 8:00 am to a water-cannon salute, followed by the first departure, IndiGo 6E882 to Hyderabad, at 8:40 am.
  • Day one features roughly 30 air traffic movements and 15 scheduled departures, with IndiGo, Air India Express, Akasa Air and Star Air operating domestic routes to nine cities.
  • Initial operations allow up to 10 aircraft movements per hour and up to 24 daily departures to 13 destinations as the schedule stabilises.
  • Phase 1 covers about 1,160 hectares with one runway and one terminal built at an estimated Rs 19,650 crore, providing capacity for 20 million passengers annually and 0.5 million tonnes of cargo.
  • The airport is operated by NMIAL with Adani Airports holding 74% and CIDCO 26%, a 1,515‑drone show marked the eve of launch, and Digi Yatra-enabled processing is available from day one.
