Navi Mumbai International Airport Begins Commercial Flights With IndiGo’s First Arrival

The new gateway launches a phased rollout to ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing hub, with round-the-clock service slated to start in February.

Overview

  • IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru landed at 8:00 am as the first arrival, followed by IndiGo 6E882 to Hyderabad at 8:40 am after a water cannon salute.
  • Four carriers—IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express and Star Air—started day‑one domestic services to nine cities, with 15 scheduled departures.
  • Initial operations run from 8 am to 8 pm with capacity for up to 10 aircraft movements per hour, progressing to 24x7 services from February 2026.
  • Phase 1 opens with one terminal and one runway designed for 20 million passengers a year and about 0.5 million tonnes of cargo, built over ~1,160 hectares at ~Rs 19,650 crore.
  • The airport is developed by Adani Airports via NMIAL with a 74% stake alongside CIDCO’s 26%, and the eve of launch featured a 1,515‑drone display.
