Overview

• Chhotu alias Chhatu Markat Yadav, 36, was arrested in a Nagpur labour camp, ending his 13-year evasion on a 2012 murder charge.
• The Rabale MIDC case originally closed in 2013 as an ‘A Summary’ report after Yadav fled, leaving the killing of Bhavankhan Ugan Yadav unresolved.
• A June directive from Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe prompted the Crime Branch to revisit cold cases that had exceeded a decade without progress.
• Investigators used old records, photographs and technical analysis to pinpoint Yadav’s location before coordinating with Nagpur officers for his arrest.
• Yadav has been remanded in custody until August 5 as the renewed probe continues under Assistant Commissioner Ajaykumar Landge.
