Navi Mumbai Airport to Open Dec. 25 as Akasa Operates First Flight and IndiGo Launches 10-City Network

Bookings are open to kick-start a phased rollout that advances Mumbai’s dual-airport system.

Overview

  • Akasa Air will run the maiden scheduled service on December 25 with QP 1831 departing Delhi at 05:25 and the return QP 1832 leaving Navi Mumbai at 08:50.
  • Akasa’s initial network links Navi Mumbai to Delhi and Goa from December 25, Kochi from December 26, and Ahmedabad from December 31, with fares listed from about Rs 5,122.
  • IndiGo begins December 25 with direct flights to Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, North Goa (Mopa), Jaipur, Nagpur, Kochi and Mangaluru, with tickets available on its channels.
  • Phase 1 of the greenfield airport, inaugurated on October 8, features one runway and one terminal designed for roughly 20 million passengers annually to relieve pressure on Mumbai’s CSMIA.
  • Early listings show active fare comparisons between Navi Mumbai and Mumbai’s existing airport and brisk bookings, while some travelers flagged the absence of Kolkata and Chennai as airlines pledge gradual expansion.
