Overview
- IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru touched down at 8:00 am to open the airport, followed by the first departure at 8:40 am to Hyderabad.
- About 30 day-one movements were scheduled with 15 departures as IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express and Star Air connected nine domestic destinations.
- Initial capacity is up to 10 aircraft movements per hour, with services scaling progressively toward 24x7 operations from February 2026.
- Phase one features one terminal and one runway on a 1,160-hectare site, built for 20 million annual passengers and 0.5 million tonnes of cargo at a cost of about Rs 19,650 crore.
- Developed by NMIAL with Adani Airports holding 74% and CIDCO 26%, the airport is intended to relieve congestion at Mumbai’s existing gateway, with Digi Yatra-enabled processing, a water-cannon salute for the first arrival and a 1,515-drone show marking the launch.
