NATS Restores Radar Serving Birmingham Airport After Overnight Outage

NATS says the system is operating normally again following a weather-related power failure.

Overview

  • Arrivals had been suspended in the early hours, with only departures operating from Birmingham.
  • NATS reported a power outage linked to bad weather at a radar site that sequences inbound traffic.
  • At least 12 inbound flights were diverted to East Midlands, Liverpool, Manchester and Stansted, with some sent to Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam.
  • Delays and some cancellations were reported as the disruption affected passengers and schedules.
  • Engineers worked with National Grid and the airport to fix the fault and move toward resuming normal arrivals.
