The Baltic intercept capped a weekend of heightened alliance air policing triggered by Russia’s largest recent barrage.

Overview

  • Germany scrambled two Eurofighters from Rostock-Laage to shadow a transponder-dark Russian Il-20M over the Baltic Sea, the latest intercept reported by allied forces.
  • Ukraine said Russia fired 619 drones and missiles at nine regions and that air defenses neutralised most of them, including 552 drones, two ballistic missiles and 29 cruise missiles.
  • The UK said two RAF Typhoons conducted a NATO air-defense patrol over Poland under Operation Eastern Sentry, as Poland put aircraft, radars and ground defenses on maximum readiness.
  • Estonia accused three Russian MiG-31s of a 12-minute airspace breach and is seeking an emergency UN Security Council meeting after requesting NATO Article 4 talks; Moscow denies a violation.
  • Kyiv reported new strikes on oil facilities in Russia’s Samara and Saratov regions that it says support the war effort, while Czech president Petr Pavel urged NATO to be ready to down trespassing jets.
