NATO Begins Steadfast Dart 26 in Germany as Italian Convoy Lands at Emden

Germany serves as the logistical hub for a 10,000-strong, multi-domain drill that tests rapid deployment of the Allied Reaction Force.

Overview

  • Around 10,000 troops from 11 NATO nations will transit Germany over the coming weeks, with the United States not participating.
  • An Italian vanguard arrived at Emden with about 2,200 equipment items and vehicles, marking the visible start of the deployment phase.
  • The exercise will involve more than 1,500 military vehicles, dozens of aircraft, and roughly 17 naval vessels across land, sea, air, space and cyber domains.
  • Live training is scheduled for February 9–20 at the Bergen and Munster ranges, with additional activity at Putlos on the Baltic coast and operations through Hannover airport.
  • Forces are moving by sealift, overland convoys and air transport under JFC Brunssum to integrate multinational units and demonstrate collective defense readiness.
