Nationwide Recall of Frozen Sprouted Beans Tied to Salmonella Outbreak

Overview

  • Chetak LLC Group announced on July 16 a recall of Deep Sprouted Mat (Moth) and Sprouted Moong beans sold in 16-ounce pouches under multiple lot codes distributed nationwide
  • FDA testing in May detected the same salmonella strain in frozen sprouted mat and moong bean samples that has sickened 11 people across ten states since last fall
  • Confirmed cases span Massachusetts, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington, with most illnesses emerging since early April
  • No new infections have been reported as of mid-July, and four patients said they had eaten or likely eaten the recalled beans before falling ill
  • Consumers are urged to return or discard the affected products for a full refund and to thoroughly clean any surfaces or utensils that contacted the beans
