Nationwide Expands Biometric Verification to All Current Account Holders

New applicants will also be able to verify their identity with face or fingerprint scanning once they complete standard onboarding checks.

  • Nationwide is rolling out biometric verification across its entire current account customer base, enabling face or fingerprint login through its mobile banking app.
  • Customers can choose between device-based biometrics or the app’s ‘Account biometrics’ feature to authenticate payments without using a card reader.
  • Facial data is processed and stored securely by identity provider Mitek, which creates a digital map to verify users in future transactions.
  • The biometric option will be integrated into new account openings after applicants pass initial verification checks.
  • Reward Saver holders will soon have the option to switch their account to paperless statements via the mobile app.
